Why usernames
A phone number is a permanent, transferable, widely-shared identifier. Building a messenger on top of one means everybody who ever had your number can find you. MsgMe starts from a handle you chose and can share deliberately.
Why email is still required
Accounts without any recovery path get lost, and accounts without verification get abused. MsgMe requires a verified email so you can recover access and so we can act on abuse — and keeps that email private account information, never a public identity.
What MsgMe does today
- One-to-one chats with replies, edits, reactions, receipts and typing indicators
- Voice notes, photos, video and file sharing
- Groups with owner, admin and member roles, invitations and mentions
- Chat requests, blocking, reporting and privacy controls
- Installable app experience with push notifications where supported
What MsgMe deliberately does not do
No phone-number signup, no contact-list upload, no public feeds, stories or channels, and no advertising profile built out of your conversations.
